La Famiglia in Italia

Image
Hello Blog People,      One of the highlights of the last semester was my family coming to visit me while I was studying abroad. The fact that they were going to come and see the life I was living there was such good motivation and kept me going in January and February. Those are usually pretty hard and being away from my family is always difficult, but knowing that they would come brought me a lot of comfort. Their general plan was to fly into Rome and visit me in Florence. After a few days, we all traveled to Switzerland for my spring break and then we stay in a small town where my mom has some friends.      On March 21 my family landed in Rome. I was so so so so so so excited to see them. I took a train from Florence down to Rome. The first problem was that my parents didn’t have cell service so we set up a place to meet up when I got there. I knew where I was going because earlier that month I had been to Rome and the Rome train station, but they did not. So when I arrived, my fa

Little Update

Hello Blog People,      It has been a while...heh heh heh. Well, life has been crazy, but I want to update you guys a little bit and then let you know my plan for the rest of this blog.       Obviously, I returned to the States and have been back for almost 2 months. I flew back on June 4th, and it's taken a little time to readjust. I will probably say this later, but the culture shock was harder coming back to the U.S. than going to Italy. I guess I was expecting it to be the opposite.       The final quarter of Italy was crazy. I had a lot of people come and visit me, which was such a blessing. Plus I had classes and some travels. And obviously, through my busy schedule, I did not get to put out any blog posts. But I do want to finish this little account of my time, and the longer I procrastinate, the fewer memories and little anecdotes I will have. So here is what I'm going to do.       The next few posts will not be as detailed as the ones that came before it because, well

Gaeta and Poppi

Image
Hello Blog People,      In the week between going to Rome and my family coming, I had the opportunity to travel on behalf of the school and go to a town called Gaeta.  As the spiritual rep, I was asked to go for Global Youth Day to represent Villa. Overall, it was a short trip. We left early in the morning on Saturday, around 4 AM, and continued past Rome.  It’s a very nice town on the coast in the southern part of Italy. I went with two other ACA students (Natalie and Yasmine), some volunteers, and some theology students. I got to ride in Nicolò's car along with the other ACA students, his wife, and their dog, Nilo. We arrived at the church and immediately went into the church service. Everybody was talking Italian (obviously) and everybody kind of knew everybody.  There are only about 10,000 Adventists in all of Italy, so most people that are involved with the church know each other. After church service we were given sack lunches that the church had prepared and we walked down
