Weekend!!!
Hello Blog People,
After my blog post covering my second week, I had a pretty fun weekend that I would like to tell you all about. There was a dream come true experience that I can't wait to tell you about. But we have to cover everything else up to that point.
On Friday, we don't have classes ( I love saying that). So I got to spend the morning to myself. I watched some TV, wrote my blog post, and kinda just chilled. Then in the afternoon, Natalie and I joined a group that had gone into town that morning. We walked all the way to the other side of the river (a 20-minute walk from the last tram stop) and met them at a gelato place. The original plan was to go to Piazzale Michelangelo, a beautiful plaza with a great outlook of the city. Most of the group decided to go back, but Natalie, Linda, and I decided to still go. We walked through the city and walked all the way up the trails to get to the Piazzale and it was beautiful. I didn't expect the lookout to be so touristy, but it also makes sense. You can look out of all of Florence and the surrounding hills from that lookout. There are also a few restaurants you can eat at and street musicians that make the mood even more romantic. We just chilled up there for a while and took some pictures.

We had to get back for dinner, so we decided (instead of walking to the tram and taking that back) to take those rentable bikes all the way back. I got an electric bike and it made the ride back a lot easier (obviously) and more enjoyable. It was stressful at times because we were riding through the city, dodging people and vehicles. At one point, I was surrounded by motorcycles on 3 sides and a city bus on the other side. But it was really fun and less stressful once we got out of the less busy section of town.
Saturday's was uneventful until the end of the day. I got to play piano for three lovely ladies. We did a special music, singing Wonderful Merciful Savior and oh my goodness, they have AMAZING harmonies. I love performing with them. And fun fact, we only practiced the song a few times the night before performing, and then some the morning of. It was really fun and good to get back into the music again. That afternoon I took a solid nap, and then played some worship music with a few of my friends. But that night was the real adventure.
We had been told a few days earlier that Saturday night we were going to have haystacks for supper (a little taste of home which I appreciated) and there would be karaoke. Not going to lie, my hopes for karaoke were not very high. Most times that is tried, people don't really get into it and the music just plays and no one sings. However, this karaoke session had a great start. One of our cooks decided to grab the mic first and set the tone and it was wonderful. Everyone cheered and was laughing and trying to sing along (I think the song was in Portuguese). Then one of the ACA students got pressured to do a song, and he chose the YMCA. Everyone got into it and was singing along. And with the tone set, I was convinced to perform a song. I was going to do Shut Up and Dance, but What Makes You Beautiful was pulled up so I did that song instead. I had such a great time performing (I even remembered part of the dance moves from the Just Dance version). I let myself just enjoy the music and sing my heart out. It was a blast and honestly, the first part of a dream come true. People were singing with me and dancing in their seats. VI didn't feel a lot of judgement. After that, more people did songs by ABBA, Justin Bieber, and Whitney Houston. Everyone had a great time. It lasted for close to an hour. In the end, someone chose the Macarena and the video they chose was a Just Dane video, so we did a few Just Dance videos (Timber and the Cha Cha Slide). Dancing to Timber with one of my friends will be a core memory from this year abroad. I cannot express to you how much fun I had. Time spent with my friends, singing karaoke, and vibing and dancing was just a dream come true. I have always wanted to have a fun karaoke night, and do Just Dance with people that would get into it. I think you get the point. It was really really fun.
On Sunday I chilled in my room for the morning, watching TV and just doing nothing. Did my laundry, might get gelato (that is pretty common), study, and plan the week. All good things for a chill Sunday.
So yeah, that was my weekend. Thanks for reading :)
Ciao,
Ellie
